She wanted an original piece of poetry to recuite at the ceremony celebrating the wedding of her close friends Gwenan and Steff.<\/p>\n<h2>Getting hitched in Sorrento<\/h2>\n<p>The wedding took place on the sunny Amalfi coast in Italy. After undertaking a whole host of commissions for wedding in Wales it was a relief to get out to explore new landscapes and sea breezes in this poem.<\/p>\n<p>Having breathed some salty sea air and imagined the boats sailing contently below the jagged cliffs, I realised things weren&#8217;t that different to Wales after all. The reference to &#8220;hwyliau sidan&#8221; (<em>silk sails<\/em>) is a reference to an old Welsh verse:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Dacw long yn hwylio&#8217;n hwylus,<br \/>\nHeibio&#8217;r trwyn, ac at yr ynys;<br \/>\nOs fy nghariad i sydd ynddi,<br \/>\nHwyliau sidan glas sydd arni.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Rough translation:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><em>There beyond the headland sails<\/em><br \/>\n<em>The ship towards the island;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>If my love is on there on board<\/em><br \/>\n<em>There are blue silk sails upon her.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<h2>Poem for Gwenan and Steff&#8217;s Wedding<\/h2>\n<p>This poem is written as a Welsh <em>cywydd.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Oedwch: mae hwyliau sidan<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">yn y Med, a\u2019r cychod m\u00e2n<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">dan swyn y gwanwyn a\u2019r gwynt<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">yn caru gwres y cerrynt.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Gwenwch islaw\u2019r clogwyni;<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">d\u00f4nt eto i\u2019ch huno chi,<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">at aur yr haul yn eu tro<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">ar eu hynt i Sorrento.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Yn eich gwanwyn chi, Gwenan<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a Steff, mor gynnes ei d\u00e2n,<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">rhowch i Ela\u2019r ha\u2019 o hyd<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a hafan o\u2019r tes hefyd.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Hawliwch, ym mreichiau\u2019r heli<br \/>\n<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">draw\u2019n y bae eich henwau chi<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a chewch ar eich taith eich hun<br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">hwyliau sidan glas wedyn.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><em>Photo: Creative Commons, \u00a0Flickr: Gabrielle Ludlow<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This is a commissioned poem\u00a0I created to a friend&#8217;s request.
